Hello March!

Hawaii students will be on Spring break this month. Everyone should be alert when driving, crossing the street, and riding bikes. Pedestrians, cyclists and drivers have the responsibility to be aware of their surroundings.

Top driving distractions

The number of Hawaii accidents in 2025 was extremely high with unfortunate fatalities. Let’s all help by avoiding these distractions:

• Texting: Texting while driving is against the law.

• Applying makeup or shaving: Make it part of your morning routine at home.

• Eating and drinking: Hold off on the refreshments until you are parked.

• Attending to children and pets: Having a pet in your lap can interfere with safe driving.

• Taking your eyes off the road: Maintain your focus on driving instead of other people and places.

• Playing the radio too loud or wearing headphones: Reduces the likelihood of hearing car horns, emergency vehicles or other key noises.

• Reading maps: Enter the address on your GPS device BEFORE you start the car rather than while driving.
